Abstract Casting is the process of foundry which has capacity to produce discrete output from raw material. Productivity of casting process is nothing but rate of overall production of the organization. Casting process involves pattern making, core making, sand preparation, mold making, melting, pouring, and shakeout activities. Several organizations in India are following manual operations to perform these activities. Defect free castings with minimum production cost have become the need of the foundries. This study is aimed to review the research work made by several researchers and an attempt to get technical solution for minimizing various casting defects and to improve the entire process of manufacturing of casting.
